Admittedly, one has to wind through the heart of the Alpilles Mountains — even well after passed the domain’s gate — but it is well worth the trouble. At the end of a long, very long stony path, a brand new building surrounded by imposing works of art awaits you: Welcome to the Domaine de l'Abbaye de Pierredon, where you will discover and taste organic wines that are also off the beaten path.
Suggesting a very intimate and even mysterious side, the domain of the Abbey of Pierredon puts holiness in its bottles and on its labels. Its cuvees’ names are inspired by the Chalaisian monks who lived here for years, and the sacred moments of their day, from Prima Luce (the first light of dawn) to Ultima Laude (the last evening prayer) in passing through Vespro (vespers).
The thirteenth-century abbey that gives its name to the estate is still standing in a valley among cypresses, olive and almond trees. Entirely renovated, it was built by Chalaisian monks between the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 12th century. With its only steeple, it’s an integral part of the domain’s image, between past and modernity.
