On the heights of Draguignan, time seems to be suspended over these historic vineyards. Located in Figanières, Château de Lagarde is the Witness of a thousand-year history; it is now the property of the Belgian publishers Dupuis. With sheer determination, the passionate family has revived this ancient land, which delivers quality auteur wines.
Besides its small organic production of olive oil and organic wines, Château de Lagarde also offers for rent a fully equipped charming cottage. The owner, who loves fruity wines from the east, has planted a few stocks of Pinot, a varietal from Burgundy that is atypical in Provence and thrives in altitude. The result is a fruity and lovely wine.
Old 1,000-litre casks dating back from the 17th century were found in the cellar of the castle. They had been carved out with an axe and manufactured in the same building.
