It is a big house with blue shutters, surrounded by vineyards: no doubt, you are at the heart of Provence! A domain can hide another. The Rougon family runs two very different lands, one in Gignac-la-Nerthe, near Aix-en-Provence, and one in Velaux, in the hinterland. They give Le Mas Bleu and Le Val des Vignes, two quality cuvees with strong temperaments.
The Rougon family welcomes you in Velaux, a charming village on the outskirts of Aix, in the guesthouse it fitted in Val des Vignes. Renovated in a contemporary style while respecting the charm of the old, the old 19th-century farmhouse houses three bedrooms, including the Syrah suite, which is spacious (50m2), bright and elegant.
Didier and Marie-Claire perpetuate a tradition rooted in the family for several generations: that of distillers. They still use the family still to produce brandy: the famous marc de Provence. White or amber (after age ten to twelve years in barrel), it enriches a range of nectars which in addition to wines includes cooked wines (Didier and Marie-Claire were among the few winemakers who have revived this local custom a few years ago), thyme liquor (Farigoule as say the Southerners) and two olive oils: one sweet PDO Aix-en-Provence and a more ardent huile de France.
