In her past, the beautiful Domaine de Saint-Jean de Villecroze has been watched over both by the Knights Templar and Knights of Malta. It also is home to an atypical grape variety in this area: Cabernet Sauvignon. Americans are known to love this varietal, and Mr Hirsch, the founder of Domaine de Saint-Jean de Villecroze, did not escape the rule. He successfully introduced it in Haut Var.
There's something for everyone ... For gourmets: in addition to the domain’s wines, the wine shop offers many local products as wine-flavoured ‘fleur de sel’, tapenade, anchovy cream, tomato cream or crémeux to make kir. For lovers: a reception hall with a capacity of seventy people. For walkers: a nice hiking trail that will take you in two hours to a waterfall and a natural bridge carved by the river.
It seems like the place has been cultivated since ancient times. A Gallo-Roman statue dating from the first century AD was indeed discovered. It could indicate the presence of an oppidum on these lands.
