This is one of the finest examples of the dynamism of Provencal cooperatives. Installed for almost 100 years in Montfort-sur-Argens, the Caves du Commandeur combine today 500 hectares spread over one of the finest vineyards of Provence Verte. The winemakers of Montfort sur Argens have managed to exploit this natural wealth by modernizing the cellar and by entrusting it to a young and talented winemaker.
Les Caves du Commandeur receives wine lovers in three tasting cellars: one, which opened in 2013, is located at the entrance of the village of Montfort. The other is in Salerno. The third is in Brignoles, at the entrance to the road leading to Val and Monfort. All three offer all wines of the cooperative and a choice of local products that rhymes quality and variety.
The name of the cooperative was inspired to its members by the castle that dominates the village. Built in the 12th century, it is a former Templar headquarters. It is the source of an incredible number of mysteries. It was thus the place of initiation of the Secret Masters of the Templar Order. It is rumoured that it would also be haunted, perhaps by the prisoners who stayed there during the troubled years of the French Revolution. Finally, some people swear to have seen a UFO over the city walls in 1968.
