This cooperative has dared to question itself and is now reaping the reward of this challenge. Located in Pourcieux at the foot of Mont Aurélien, the centenary wine cooperative of “Les Vignerons du Baou” offers a selection of wines typical of this region of Provence.
The cellar of Les Vignerons du Baou and the vineyards can be visited. Just make an appointment in advance with the wine shop.
Does it come from pigs or a Roman consul? Today, it is still difficult to decide between the two options to explain the origin of the name of Pourcieux. In Provençal, "Pourcieou" does indeed mean "pig roof" and the presence of pig farms through different historical periods is attested in the town. But there is also Porcius, the Roman consul who served in the Battle of Pourrières in 102 BC, and whose body could rest under the ground of the village. Will the dilemma ever be solved?
